The Spirit of ’67
”1967. That’s right. That’s our year.
It’s the year when Baarer Skating Club qualified for the 2nd League, moved to Zug and changed its name to Eissportverein Zug. It’s when a new ice-rink was opened, and more than 5000 fans came to the opening tournament, celebrating victories over Bern and Arosa. EVZ was born.
But 1967 is also the year of freethinking, of exciting culture, music and design, fashion and art; the year when pop culture exploded, of the Summer of Love, the anti-war movement and mind-blowing albums: Beatles, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground, Cream, The Doors…
It’s the year when NHL doubles its size by six more teams and NASA launches the Lunar Orbiter spacecrafts. The Chevrolet Camaro is introduced, and Celtic FC becomes the first Northern European football club to win the European Cup. Elvis and Priscilla Presley get married and The American Basketball Association is formed.
Muhammad Ali refuses military service while the Mai Tai becomes cocktail of the year.
It’s the birth-year of Roberto Baggio, Jürgen Klopp and Kurt Cobain. The San Diego Stadium opens as well as Swiss art museum Pavilion Le Corbusier.
Kathrine Switzer becomes the first woman to run The Boston Marathon and Bonnie & Clyde the year’s most popular movie.
It’s Pop Art and politics, hippies and Mad Men, high boots and short skirts, muscle cars and sports.
The ’67 Sports Bar is where we pay tribute to our blue club and its heroes, as well as to this mind-blowing, exciting era. We are competitive and supportive, friendly and fun with a fighting spirit and a smile. A place for EVZ die-hards and sport nerds in general, for loving couples and people just looking for a good time and great, uncomplicated food and a drink. A place where we meet and share experiences, match days or not. There’s always something happening here.
